The Humble Smile Foundation is a global group of dental professionals who believe passionately that good oral care is necessary to lead a healthy life. The foundation implements projects all over the globe to serve children and communities in need. So far, HSF has helped over 30,000 children in over 30 countries around the globe.

Numerous children all over the world do not have access to basic dental care. They do not just lack access to dentists; many of them don’t even own toothbrushes. What several of them do have is an increasingly sugary diet. This is because in many parts of the world, drinking sugary drinks such as soda is often safer than drinking water, which may be contaminated. In addition, many communities lack education about oral care and why it is necessary. As a result, the children are afflicted with pain and tooth decay. Many of them end up missing school. Tooth decay is the most common childhood disease, with over 70% of school children affected worldwide. However, it is also easily preventable.
In April 2015, the Humble Smile Foundation was founded in Sweden, with the aim of improving the lives of disadvantaged people anywhere on earth, by giving them the tools to reduce their burden of oral disease. HSF was created to combat and prevent oral diseases prevalent in underprivileged communities. By spending time in the communities, HSF dental professionals and volunteers are able to learn about the causes of oral diseases prevalent in the communities. Once they are able to identify the cause(s), HSF takes measures to educate the children and community leaders about what they can do to prevent oral diseases.
HSF also provides the children with eco-friendly Humble Brushes so that they can take better care of their teeth. This leaves a lasting social impact, as communities are better equipped with preventing oral disease. Furthermore, there is a positive environmental impact, as the biodegradable bamboo brushes address the problem posed by over 3 billion plastic toothbrushes disposed of every year.
